The Merino Country Vignerons Association Inc. (formerly Goulburn District Vignerons Association) was established to bring together grape growers and wine makers in the northern parts of the Southern New South Wales Zone surrounding the city of Goulburn, who do not otherwise fit into any of the district Geographic Indicator regions as defined by the Australian Wine and Brandy Corporation
There are a number of small vineyards and boutique wineries in this area, which falls between the Canberra, Hilltops, Cowra, Orange, Southern Highlands and the South Coast GI districts.
This is a cool climate region with elevations mostly between 500 and 900 meters allowing the production of quality grapes. Spring frosts can be a problem. However,when these are managed, the resultant grapes can produce magnificent wine.
